What is Shortcut Virus

Shortcut virus is an anonymous malware which makes all files, folders and even flash drive into shortcut. It hides and replaces original content with "shortcut.exe". It will not let you to open your files. When you try to open a shortcut.exe file, it starts duplicating itself. It also install malicious programs in your computer and laptop.

Usually this virus is not removed by regular Antivirus. It disturbs severely and users become extremely bored. Sometimes it spoils all files and damages computer. It spreads very rapidly  from one computer to another through pendrives, flash drives, memory cards and even through internet or Bluetooth connections. It affects overall computer performance. Autorun.inf is the most common shortcut virus in pendrives or any removable drives. It infects computer system and keeps on multiplying and within a short time it creates unlimited shortcuts of files and folders.

Types Of Shortcut Virus

There are two types of shortcut virus.

1) File and Folder Shortcut Virus

2) Pen drive/ Flash Drive Shortcut Virus

File and Folder Shortcut Virus

File and folder shortcut virus is familiar to windows users. It is seen in those computer or laptop who do not update their system regularly. It makes original folder and files hidden and not accessible. By clicking on the shortcuts, users cannot open the files or folders rather it stats duplicating itself.

Pen drive/ Flash Drive Shortcut Virus

Pen drive/ Flash Drive Shortcut Virus is trojan and able to damage computer system. It affects all the files and folders making them hidden and makes the pendrive or flash drive a shortcut executable file with the same name and icon. This can execute malicious programs and steal personal information.
